Everywhere in the world, Dutch dredging companies with their modern ships and impressive craftsmanship are working at huge and impressive projects.
Sliedrecht was the cradle of the dredging industry and they had a good reputation all over the world.
But they were not the only one, who earned their living in the " black gold " .
R. Boltje & Sons NV from Zwolle was one of the dredging companies in the north of the country.
The founder Roelof Boltje was the example of a self-made man and let his
company grow into a midsized one.
Several major and minor dredging operations in Europe and Africa were adopted by him.
Since the “50, his company " BOLTJE do BRASIL Ltd., led by his son Kor, was dredging in Brazil and widened up, for example, the famous Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, on a spectacular way.
Roelof was a man who discovered dredging in the right way, namely " by practice ".
He believed that by hard working, taking risks and with a bit of good luck you can earn a lot of money.
That good luck failed him in the "70’ s and that, unfortunately, meant the end for this unique company.
